RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the organization of the Chief Manufacturing & Supply Chain Officer as the lead finance liaison.  Implement analysis as directed by the Corporate Controller and Chief Manufacturing & Supply Chain Officer.
     
  • Identify unusual trends in the financial results of the Operations and independently design analytics to explain, exploit or mitigate trends.  Assist in developing metrics that provide actionable results and drive projects that improve financial performance.
     
  • Develop, implement and monitor standard cost and related analysis, alerting the organization to unusual results and presenting possible solutions.
     
  • Set deadlines for Operations Finance deliverables with input from the Corporate Controller and Chief Manufacturing & Supply Chain Officer.  Communicate deadlines to stakeholders and ensure timely completion.
     
  • Support the company’s annual budget and forecast processes for the Operations team, including developing an understanding of key inputs and assumptions and the interconnected nature of the various steps, leading to comprehensive project plans with clear owners and timelines.  Collaborates with stakeholders to solve issues that occur during the process and leads the team to practical solutions.
     
  • Represent Finance on project teams, advising as a business and financial partner.
     
  • Develop templates to perform analysis consistently
     
  • Perform/assist with higher level financial analysis including but not limited to: make vs. buy decisions, analyzing the operations of potential acquisitions and product line profitability.
     
  • Promotes a culture of continuous improvement with the Finance and Operations teams.

 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • BS/BA in accounting or finance.  MBA, CPA or CMA a plus
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment including progressive responsibility to leadership roles supporting the Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams.
  • Candidate will be a leader able to influence the strategy of the department and independently execute the strategy while demonstrating sound judgment and resourcefulness in decision making and problem solving
  • Candidate will think independently and be talented at creating new processes and identifying areas for process improvement as well as be able to tactfully present these ideas to stakeholders
  • An articulate individual who can relate to associates at all levels of an organization including operational supervisors, business managers and executives.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage competing priorities while working with a sense of urgency
  • Experience managing others and coaching for success
  • 7-10 years in accounting, public or private, with 5+ years in an Operations support role
  • Excellent computer skills are required while knowledge of Dynamics AX is a plus

    • Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet
    • prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to access accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.

    • Report to management regarding the finances of establishment.
    • Prepare, calculate and comply with debt covenant reporting
    • Treasury management. Close coordination with FP&A team.
    • Administer business risk insurance requirements with team.
    • Establish tables of accounts, and assign entries to proper accounts.
    • Develop, maintain and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
    • Survey operations to ascertain accounting needs and to recommend, develop and maintain solutions to business and financial problems.
    • Advise management about issues such as resource utilization, tax strategies, and the assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
    • Provide internal and external auditing services for businesses.
    • Appraise, evaluate and inventory real property and equipment, recording information such as the property's description, value and location.

    Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with minimum 5 years experience. CPA and manufacturing experience preferred.

    Salary plus 10% bonus

        Desired Candidate Qualifications

        Position Description and Key Responsibilities

        The company is seeking a candidate that is motivated, versatile, and highly organized. The main duties of this position will be serving as assistant controller for three dairy operations, a feedlot operation, a small farming company, and will include involvement in a real estate holdings company. Our office consists of other team members in this role and would report to the current controller for the operations listed above.

        • Monthly financial statement preparation of the three dairy operations and 1 feedlot including account analysis and reconciliation

        • Quarterly financial statement preparation of the farming operation including account analysis and reconciliation

        • Oversee the reporting and accounting of any new construction projects for these operations

        • Create and maintain annual operating and capital budgets

        • Responsible for managing operational data and ensuring data integrity and accuracy, includes both data originating from site of operations and data prepared by our office team

        • Work closely with the Group Controller and other accounting staff on daily finance and accounting activities

        • Assist in year-end closing and preparation for annual CPA prepared reviews and tax returns

        • Miscellaneous projects and analysis as needed

        • Occasional travel required, typically 2-3 days of travel, semi-annually, as locations are located in Iowa and South Dakota

          Ideal Candidate

        • 4 year accounting degree

        • 6+ years of experience, public accounting experience or MBA preferred

        • Must be a meticulous self-starter and have the ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet deadlines
